We are spending more time at home and it requires more attention to what we spend our time on.
Above all, being productive can be difficult for some people. It’s very easy to get stressed out by a long to-do list.
One thing that helps us is by staying off social media as much as possible. Negative thoughts and social media play a huge role in your ability to be productive.
In fact, distractions not only hold you back, they are a complete waste of time. And, those distractions can keep you from reaching your goals.

1. Remove negative thoughts and focus on positivity
The most important thing is to be aware that we all let negative thoughts creep into our minds and while it may seem we cannot control them, we must learn how to stay positive and manage our thoughts.
Most importantly, it takes practice and making an effort to catch yourself having negative thoughts and bring your focus back on positivity. Your mind will continue going down the wrong path unless you recognize it and take control.
Above all, it’s good to understand your own thoughts and how to control them.
2. Disconnect from your devices
I know you’re probably thinking it’s no way I can disconnect from my devices. Well, we’re not saying completely disconnect, but if you spend a little less time every day on your devices, it will give you a few more valuable hours each week.
eMarketer found that the average person spends about 3 hours a day on their phone. 90% of that time is spent in apps such as social media. When you add up all that time, it takes up a large portion of your life.
In fact, if you find yourself spending too much time on your devices, it may be best to delete those apps or deactivate your accounts. Or, you can create a portion of the day where you block off access to your accounts during the day or night.
Important to note, find a way to control the amount of time you spend on your devices so that energy can be devoted to more valuable things.
3. Focus on being organized
Being organized can greatly help your productivity. It can definitely be hard at first, but it can help you find more time in your day.
Here are some helpful tips to be more organized:
- Create a schedule that you can stick to
- Keep notes of things you don’t want to forget
- Switch to a minimalist lifestyle
- Consistently clean up around the house
Certainly, learning these organizational skills can be difficult. However, you will have to commit yourself to be organized if you want this tip to be helpful.
Decluttering will help your working spaces feel more functional and possibly reduce stress.
4. Watch less TV
Certainly, TV can be very interesting with all of the TV shows and sports on. We’ve realized that too much TV kills our productivity. It’s easy to sit and watch TV for hours without even realizing it.
Netflix is one of the major reasons most people love watching TV. You can binge-watch a show in a weekend if you really wanted to.
The average person watched 35 hours of TV per week! That’s almost as many hours as a person spends working their 40 hour per week job.
Just take a moment and think about if you spent half of those hours doing something more productive.
Cutting back on watching TV can really help you be more productive and help you spend more time on important things.

5. Unsubscribe from unnecessary emails
Subscribing to emails is a very easy thing to do. Of course, we’ve all done it to receive a discount and then you end up on an email list. That can be very annoying!
In the past, we’ve subscribed to a bunch of different websites and companies and received hundreds of emails. It takes a lot of time filtering through those emails to find the important ones. Even setting up custom tabs doesn’t always work.
So, we decided to unsubscribe from all emails except for the important ones and blogs that we enjoy. Everything else was completely removed and we try to keep it that way.
We recommend you take some time to unsubscribe from the ones that aren’t helpful to your life or ones that take too much time checking each day.
It takes just a couple of seconds to unsubscribe from emails. Most emails have an unsubscribe button on the bottom of the email.
Another thing to note, you can save money by unsubscribing from marketing emails about buying things such as clothes, etc. that you may not need. The thing about emails is you can always resubscribe when you absolutely need to.
6. Create reminders for a to-do list
We love using our reminders app on our phones and our calendar. We would feel unorganized and confused without these two options.
In fact, we use a shared calendar for things we are doing together or reminders for important events.
Above all, we keep it very simple when creating reminders. Overdoing it will only lead to stress and possibly feeling overwhelmed. However, it’s so helpful when a reminder pops up on our phones about something we totally forgot about.
This tip will help create productivity in every aspect of your life. You can create a list for work, home, personal, etc.
Most importantly, you will feel more prepared and motivated to work toward your goals.
7. Learn to say no to things that don't add value
Productivity requires you to say no to things that do not align with your dreams and goals. Certainly, it’s not easy to say no, but it’s the only way for you to stay focus on the task at hand.
8. Don't open up emails the second they arrive to your inbox
Your emails can drain productivity if you let it. The smallest thing can distract you from your important work. Even when you think you’re going to take a quick look at those emails, it becomes a long look.
It’s best to create a schedule to look at emails. It does require a lot of self-control to stick to your plan and prevent the urge to let emails take up your day.
Of course, if something is urgent, you will need to address it. However, most emails we spend time on simply distract us.
You may want to try and check your email only a few times a day if it is really impacting your productivity.
Work emails are important, but don’t feel obligated to respond or open them the second they arrive.
9. Focus on doing one thing at a time
We’ve found that we need to set time aside to complete a task instead of trying to do it without planning.
10. Create simple daily routines
The stress from feeling overloaded with a task can prevent you from getting started. You may question if you will complete the task on time, do it well, etc.
Creating simple routines will keep your mind from racing and allow you to make progress.
A routine will give you the motivation to get started. However, you must initiate the action rather than waiting for the right time.
This is why creating a simple daily routine is so crucial. You will create patterns in your brain to overcome any doubt you may have when completing tasks.
Most importantly, identity what routines work for you and use them to get started.
